Apply NowFor the students who are studying in our Rural Setting (Salamina) we offer a very unique activity we call, for lack of a better name, Rural Life.
This program makes the most of the wonderful location of Salamina and the close proximity to many different aspects of rural Colombian living.
This program does a different activity each day of the week, visiting various locations near and around Salamina.
It aims at giving students an idea of how the large number of rural Colombian live, work and pass the time.
Students visit a variety of local farms that produce a diverse range of products from beef, avocado, granadilla (sweet passionfruit) and the local speciality coffee.
The students are given a tour of the farms with a detailed description of the farming techniques and processes involved.
If they wish student can also help work on the farm, tending the animals and when required harvesting the crops.
The area around Salamina is rich in local artisans making a wide range of hand crafts. Using the nearby natural resources of such things are Guadua bamboo.
Student can visit the workshops of a number of artisans and even try their hand at making some artisanas. It is also an excellent place to find gifts for friends and family back home.
Please note that this program is only available to students in our Rural Setting (Salamina) and has an extra fee of $US 80 per week.
The Rural Life program was so interesting. I loved that there was something different to do each day. All the instructions and information were given in Spanish but with my classes and the fact that I could see and touch the things being discussed I understand most of what was being said.
It became a bit of a topic of discussion. What unexpected places was Felipe going to take us to today?
We are proud to have locally run Let's Go Volunteer as our Volunteering partner
