Things to do

In the evenings - City setting (Ibagué)

Ibagué has a number of zones which offer a wide range of options for student who want to unwind and relax.

Whether they are looking for a quiet drink, live music, salsa clubs or dust 'til dawn super clubs there is something for everyone in the Ibagué nightlife.

In the evenings - Rural setting (Salamina)

In Rural Colombia, while being a little quieter than the cities, going out in the evening is still very much an important part of life.

With a number of places around the town an evening out gives our students the chance to get to know the locals and practice their Spanish.

In the weekends - City setting (Ibagué)

Sundays are generally when Colombians relax and get out of the city. Likewise for our students weekends are a great time to get out and explore. Luckily Ibagué and the surrounding region has a lot to offer.

We have two national parks near to the city and they offer a wide range of activities including hikes, thermal hot springs, natural swimming holes and waterfalls.

You might like to visit some of the quaint surrounding pueblos of Villarestrepo, Fresno or Honda, for an insight into rural Colombia and some Sunday asado (BBQ) lunch.

Down in the considerably warmer valley near the historic town of Melgar, there are a number of water theme parks including Piscilago and Tierra Caliente, which offer both relaxing bathing and high action water slide fun.

Many of our favorite locations are known only to locals. This is why many of our students are unable to find much information about them or, in fact, about Ibagué on the internet. This keeps Ibagué a bit of a secret and reduces the number of tourists, which means the activities we offer are a genuine reflection of the local culture and Colombian way of life.

In the weekends - Rural setting (Salamina)

Our students have a choice of weekend activities available. The town is located near to the pretty small towns, mountains and national parks which offer excellent hiking, cycling, day/night horseback excursions and river swimming opportunities. There are also opportunities to bird watch and paraglide!

Students are also welcome to visit nearby coffee, dairy and poultry farms. The region produces a large amount of sugar cane and students can witness the panela (a type of raw sugar cane fudge) making process at local trapiches.

Further away trips

Both of school settings are ideally located in the center of the country to give our students excellent access to the other parts of the country. Trips to see the Santuario de las Lajas in Nariño, the delights of Antioquia as well as traveling to the both the Pacific or Caribbean coast are easy to arrange from Ibagué and Salamina.

I never had a dull moment in Ibagué, there was always something to do or see. Seeing and doing the extra activities really made the experience more than just studying.

Colombia is so beautiful that spending time seeing it is, I would almost say, essential for students. Getting out in the weekends was all part of it.

We did a trip to the Casades Chicalas which are some local waterfalls. In fact there were seven waterfalls in all, each one with a deep pool - excellent for jumping, swimming and chilling out. A brilliant day all round.

I spent my last week in Colombia on the beautiful beaches of Cartegena and Santa Marta. One day we went to a beach a little out of Santa Marta and had the whole gorgeous beach to ourselves for most of the afternoon! I have never found that anywhere else in the world.
