Study Spanish in two authentic Colombian settings for $US 400. You can spend one week in our Rural Setting staying on a coffee farm then spend the second week in the City Ibagué.
Apply NowWe try hard to give our students the best facilities and services for their fees. We also attempt to anticipate the needs of our students and provide them with everything required to have a great learning and cultural experience.
All learning materials will be provided by the teachers. This includes printouts, photocopies and digital material. We do ask that students bring some form of notebook and writing materials. We also recommend that students bring a good Spanish-English dictionary with them. Our schools have some but they are difficult and expensive to buy in Colombia particularly outside the large cities.
The fees cover the payment of all our teaching staff and their basic transport costs to the class. We encourage our teachers to take their students outside the classroom to give them as many real world interactions as possible. Obviously this occasionally requires money and we ask that students are aware of this and help contribute to any additional costs.
Where possible we try and include the entire cost of the activities in the prices. The only exception to this is transport, where students are asked to cover the cost of getting to the locations. In most cases however the locations are is very close and walkable.
The Accommodation fees include the cost of the students accommodation and any facilities located there including internet and laundry facilities.
In the case of Home-stay and Farm-stay accommodation it also covers breakfast and dinner each day. We ask that our students make their own arrangements for lunch either with their families or in the many restaurants and eateries available to them.
For students staying at the Volunteer House the fees cover lunch and dinner during the week. We asked that they provide their own breakfast each day as well as meals in the weekend. They will of course have full access to cooking facilities.
The fees for the Greeting services cover the guides fees, any taxis that might be taken and entrance fees to tourist attractions. We do ask that students pay for any meals they eat, the hostel (if a nights stay is required) and their bus tickets to Ibagué or Salamina.
We encourage our students to see and do as much as they can with their spare time. It is not uncommon for students to be invited on family outings, trips or nights with their teachers as well as planned weekend students activities. These activities are done out the kindest of the Colombian hosts hearts and are based on their desire to share their country with our students.
With this in mind we ask that students are mindful of any necessary costs associated with these activities and also consider that the incomes of Colombians are considerably lower than that of western countries.
One Sunday we did a trip up the Combiema valley and spent the day at La Riviera. It was a fully functioning farm and restaurant but they also offered horse riding, guided hikes and even camping. It was one of the most beautiful places I have ever been for lunch. We could actually see the snow covered Nevado del Tolima from our table! Afterwards we went for a walk to work off our meals. It was a magical day and next time I want to camp there under the stars.
For me the coffee farms around Salamaina were a real highlight. One afternoon an owner took us for a tour, showed us the coffee growing on the bushes and then roasted them right in front of our eyes. Coffee at home will never be the same again after that experience.
We are proud to have locally run Let's Go Volunteer as our Volunteering partner
